"Clifford’s Tower is one of York’s most iconic landmarks, and is largely all that remains of the eminent York Castle. Over its thousand year history, Clifford’s Tower has operated in a number of different functions, housing everything from kings to criminals, cannons to cows. Constructed by William the Conqueror in 1086, the first Clifford’s Tower was a wooden structure placed high on the motte that still stands today."
"There's precious little left of York Castle except for this evocative stone tower, a highly unusual four-lobed design built into the castle's keep after the original one was destroyed in 1190 during anti-Jewish..."
"Merchant Adventurers’ Hall on Fossgate is one of the finest medieval guild halls in existence. A fascinating museum also available for weddings and events (great vintage fairs take place here), the venue’s centrepiece is the Great Hall where medieval merchants once gathered. A collection on display inside includes a range of fine silver, paintings and furniture."

"Dean’s Park offers fantastic views, a great place to stretch out and enjoy a break during a busy day, as well as soft drink and ice cream refreshments available during summer. You may also want to view nearby York Minster. There is an admission charge for entering this cathedral but it doesn’t cost anything to take in the magnificent exterior!"
"Located on the North side of the Minster, Dean’s Park is a quiet, green oasis offering incredible views of the Gothic Cathedral and the Minster Library. Some ruins of a 12th-century cloister – probably from the Old Palace – are still standing. While it originally was accessible only to members of the church, today it’s open to the public."
"A beautiful place to soak in the sun and enjoy an ice cream cone, Dean’s Park offers beautiful views and plenty of green, open space. Spread out a blanket and enjoy stunning views of the Minster and its Chapter House."
"A train station may seem like an unusual location to describe as ‘Instagrammable’ but York train station is far from ordinary. The beautiful building is home to some stunning pieces of architectural work, as well as modern film interest!. The bridge that connects the platforms at York train station is actually the one that Harry and Hagrid walk over in the first Harry Potter film!"
"Stately homes may be two a penny in England, but you'll have to try pretty damn hard to find one as breathtakingly stately as Castle Howard, a work of theatrical grandeur and audacity set in the rolling Howardian Hills. This is one of the world's most beautiful buildings, instantly recognisable from its starring role in the 1980s TV series Brideshead Revisited and in the 2008 film of the same name (both based on Evelyn Waugh's 1945 novel of nostalgia for the English aristocracy)."
"Standing in the Howardian Hills to the west of Malton, Castle Howard is an outstanding example of English baroque, with a distinctive…"
"Malai Thai Street Food opened at the beginning of 2020, opposite Sainsbury’s in Newland Avenue and comes in at number 17 on the list. A review on Tripadvisor last week wrote: "We ordered from Malai Thai for the first time the other day and it was fantastic. "The (fairly large amount of)food arrived quickly and was all excellent. The delivery driver was courteous and professional, as was the lady we placed our phone order with."

"Located off Newland Avenue resides Zoo Cafe, possibly one Hull’s best kept secrets. Zoo Cafe was one of my favourite eateries even before I became a vegetarian. Zoo Cafe’s menu is colossal and has food perfect for any meal of the day."
"25/04/2021: LOVE Zoo, eaten almost every option on the breakfast menu. All options available as either veggie or vegan, and always fresh and really tasty. Staff are lovely, as are the surroundings!"
"A veggie and vegan paradise, this little deli-restaurant is strictly meat-free. Our personal favourite is the house Goji burger; a mushroom burger loaded with halloumi, salad and sweet potato wedges. There’s a sumptuous selection of cakes and little bits in the deli and even a breakfast menu, should you want to swing by on the way to work."
"Editor's Note: There's no photo available at the time of writing. Goji Café is a vegetarian café that also offers plenty of vegan dishes. Chef Wendy used to be a painter and now has a personal goal to make the customers’ day better by providing healthy food."
"Goji Cafe’s food is vegetarian, wholesome, nutritious and lovingly prepared from start to finish with many vegan options. We are passionate about the quality of our dishes. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm."
"Popular with students and young professionals alike, Zoo Café is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the day. In 2016, it underwent a rather lengthy refurbishment and is as popular as ever. On the menu, you’ll find lots of vegan and vegetarian snacks which makes Zoo an ideal destination for a lunchtime trip."
"Mlucyjack said: “Sweet and lovely little place with friendly staff and fabulous food at great prices. I am not a vegetarian but could easily eat this food every day for the rest of my life and never miss meat at all."
