The city was founded way back in Roman times, so it has a rich history and loads of things to see. The view from its impressive city walls will leave you speechless, and you certainly must see York Minster. Apart from those, there are plenty medieval monuments left from the age when the Normans ruled here."

It's owned by Leeds Brewery, but there is no stinting on the beer. Eight cask pumps showcase Leeds beers (try the pale or the dark mild, Midnight Bell) and four guests, with keg lines, such as a craft lager from York micro Hop Studio, adding interest."

Coffee Yard has to be my favourite (not just because of the name!) and it leads down to The Barley Hall. Parts of this historic building date back to the 14th century but its importance was only discovered in the late 20th century."
"And the last, but not least of the best York photography spots are the Snickelways of York – the narrow streets and footpaths of York (the equivalent of closes in Edinburgh, Scotland).
