9 Things To Do In York That You Simply Can't Miss
"Small but perfectly formed, Clifford’s Tower offers, among other things, splendid views across the city and York Minster from its circular platform up high. It also tells an interesting tale, often referred to as York Castle, the site dates back to 1068 when William the Conqueror was busy trying to rid the north of Vikings and built a number of castles on his way. While many battles raged over the centuries (the murky Jewish massacre of 1190 cast a long shadow), York Castle’s role evolved, including stints as a prison and a royal mint."
"Situated in the shadow of Clifford’s Tower, York Castle Museum is home to a wealth of exhibits surrounding the rich history of York and wider Great Britain, where historical sights from Georgian gowns to Dick Turpin’s prison cell may be found. Its standout exhibit however is a fully-recreated Victorian street, dubbed Kirkgate after the museum’s founder, complete with horse and cart, costumed guides and cobblestones. Though opening as a museum in 1938, the site on which it stands holds an important place in York’s history."
"Offering a fascinating look into the everyday life of the English over the ages is the superb York Castle Museum. Built on the same site where the original York Castle once stood, the museum is in the south of the city center and has countless artifacts and exhibits to explore. While the museum was founded in 1938, its colossal collection is housed in various buildings that used to serve as a prison."
"The ideal place to enjoy anything from a cup of tea to a full meal. 13-17 Coney St, York YO1 9QLT: 0871 902 5747"
"Stately homes may be two a penny in England, but you'll have to try pretty damn hard to find one as breathtakingly stately as Castle Howard, a work of theatrical grandeur and audacity set in the rolling Howardian Hills. This is one of the world's most beautiful buildings, instantly recognisable from its starring role in the 1980s TV series Brideshead Revisited and in the 2008 film of the same name (both based on Evelyn Waugh's 1945 novel of nostalgia for the English aristocracy)."
"Standing in the Howardian Hills to the west of Malton, Castle Howard is an outstanding example of English baroque, with a distinctive…"

"Across the summer season (May to September) there are generally dog bans on both North and South Bay beaches, however there are some tidal stretches on the bays where dogs are permitted obviously only when the tide is out. These are are clearly signposted. Across the winter season dogs are allowed on both North and South Bay."
"Plenty of space and long stretches of beach to walk on when the tide is out. Lots of places to have delicious fish and chips icecream and coffee. Recommend if you are visiting Scarborough on holiday"
"I had to start with Kennedy’s as it’s mine and Matt’s favourite place in the whole of York (potentially even the world!) when it comes to a night out. During the day you’ll find it set up as a restaurant (though I’ve never actually eaten here!), but at night it’s transformed to an 80s dreamland!. The ‘Kennedy’s DJ’ plays some of the best 80s, 90s and noughties music you’ll ever find in a club."
"One reviewer described the Sunday roast at Kennedy’s as “amazing” and that really speaks for itself. Tucked round the corner from bustling Stonegate, this is a good spot for a Sunday lunch in the centre of York. 1 Little StonegateWebsite"
"Combining British, Middle Eastern, and Japanese cuisine, Skosh provides innovative flavours set within York’s historic centre. This popular fine dining restaurant is located within a newly refurbed Grade II listed building that is set around an open kitchen. The menu packs a selection of beautifully prepared small plates that are great for sharing with friends."
