Instagram spots in York, Yorkshire that you can't miss!
"Leeds' most impressive medieval structure is beautiful Kirkstall Abbey, founded in 1152 by Cistercian monks from Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire. These days the city makes good use of it as an atmospheric..."
"Clifford’s Tower, a semi-ruined 13th-century remnant of York Castle, is also one of the few Norman relics in a city dominated by Viking influence. Nowadays, Clifford’s Tower is one of the most popular and emblematic sights in York, and the panoramic views from the tower’s ramparts make it an excellent starting point for first-time visitors to historic York."
"Clifford's Tower was once the site of a timber keep built by William the Conqueror. The current incarnation of Clifford's Tower has looked over the city of York since 1245. Part of York Castle, the tower played a role in the Dissolution of the Monasteries and the English Civil War."
"Firmly ensconced as the most popular park in Leeds, Roundhay Park is a favourite not just for people in the city but for visitors from across Yorkshire too. Fact fans will no doubt be aware that it's one of the biggest city parks anywhere in Europe, covering 700 acres. It offers something for everyone, too."
"Next, there’s no better way to escape the busy city than going for a stroll in Roundhay Park. The grand park covers over 700 acres and is just 3 miles north of Leeds City centre. Undeniably, it is one of the most popular parks in Leeds."
"Are you looking to view an estate house with both a history and a twist?. That’s exactly what Harewood House has to offer to you, while constantly striving to stay relevant it also manages to keep a firm grip on the past, with some of the finest art collections in England. The short trip out of the city centre shouldn’t put you off, buses run directly to and from Leeds City Centre every 15 minutes, and you’ll even get the chance to see penguins, flamingos and parrots."
"Another day out less around 30 minutes’ drive from the centre is Harewood House, fusing history and heritage with the great outdoors and breathtaking gardens. As well as the stately home, the site offers stunning grounds and an adventure playground, as well as a bird garden. And if you fancy exploring further, there are around fifteen miles of footpaths and bridleways across the estate. The estate also hosts an extensive programme of Christmas events each year."
"A romantic 32-acre (13-hectares) lake sets the tone for a romantic stroll on the grounds of Harewood House, exploring which is one of the best things for couples to do in Leeds. The swooping riverbanks serve as the perfect spot to chill and sit beside each other. Walk around the lush garden filled with colorful rhododendrons and daffodils."
"Dean’s Park offers fantastic views, a great place to stretch out and enjoy a break during a busy day, as well as soft drink and ice cream refreshments available during summer. You may also want to view nearby York Minster. There is an admission charge for entering this cathedral but it doesn’t cost anything to take in the magnificent exterior!"
"Located on the North side of the Minster, Dean’s Park is a quiet, green oasis offering incredible views of the Gothic Cathedral and the Minster Library. Some ruins of a 12th-century cloister – probably from the Old Palace – are still standing. While it originally was accessible only to members of the church, today it’s open to the public."
"A beautiful place to soak in the sun and enjoy an ice cream cone, Dean’s Park offers beautiful views and plenty of green, open space. Spread out a blanket and enjoy stunning views of the Minster and its Chapter House."
"Another set of magnificent gardens in Harrogate are these towards the western edge of town, which reflect the Yorkshire landscape with a selection of trails, a log maze and tea rooms. There's also a range of boutique shops and tours on offer at the 17 acre site which, as is the case with many parts of Harrogate, was formerly the location for a bath house and a spa. Harlow Carr Gardens are at Crag Lane, Harrogate HG3 1QB. The gardens are open from 9.30am throughout the year and close at 6pm from March to October and 4pm for the rest of the year."
"From their website: ‘Our exciting, inventive and varied menus have been especially created by our experienced staff, and are La Vecchia Scuola’s distinguishing – and distinguished – culinary feature. We believe in serving only the very best in contemporary Italian cooking.’"
"05/06/2021: The restaurant is one of two we tend to visit whenever we come to York. The building and surroundings are stunning and this is a big draw. On this occasion we were put in a side room with three other tables."
"Dating back to the 18th century, and housed in a Grade II-listed building once used as a hospital and mortuary by the Roundheads, this is reputedly the oldest pub in York. Set down a little alley (indicated by an old sign hanging over the main street), it's slightly ragged around the edges and other pubs in York have a wider selection of drinks. But for a bit of history in a city so steeped in it, Ye Olde Starr Inn is worth dropping in for a pint or two."
"You’ll find both food and drink at Ye Olde Starre Inn, but it’s the atmosphere that you’ll want to enjoy the most. It’s believed to be the oldest licensed pub in the entirety of York and it has such an incredibly authentic and historic vibe to it!. 40 Stonegate, York YO1 8AS"
"A homely and inviting pub, situated by the river in Ripon, The Water Rat’s menu of homecooked food is popular with both locals and tourists. Since taking over as landlord in 2007, Rick Jones has focused on sourcing the best local produce and this has most certainly contributed to the popularity of The Water Rat. This place is ideally located, offering splendid views of the local area which can be enjoyed either from the outdoor dining area or from the airy indoor restauirant with its floor-to-ceiling windows."

"14/06/2021: Four of us spent a very lazy Sunday wandering around Rippon , before going to Harrogate for a holiday. We decided to eat before leaving and we found a great place . The Water Rat had a lovely but limited Sunday lunch menu ."
"Hidden away under Lendal Bridge, the tiny Perky Peacock occupies a medieval tower that once functioned as a toll booth on the adjacent River Ouse. It is an atmospheric spot where the food is as seductive as the surroundings. First-rate, local ingredients underpin a menu of breakfast items (a bacon butty on Via Vecchia’s cheese bread, anyone?), handsome (if pre-made) lunchtime sandwiches and home-baked cakes."
"The Perky Peacock was the first place we went for breakfast in York. It’s a tiny, quirky little place up in a medieval tower house on the city walls. Being so compact (there’s only around 5 tables!), it’s likely you will have to wait for a seat, although turnover was pretty quick when we were there."
"One of York's charms is finding teeny places like this cafe, shoe-horned into historic buildings. In this case the host is a 14th-century, rotund watchtower crouched by the riverbank. Sup an excellent coffee..."
"Fuse Art Space, 7 Rawson Place, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD1 3JP - Visit now. Fuse is a new and exciting venue where multidisciplinary art forms meet a full spectrum of live performance; this dynamic space is broadening the artistic minds of Bradford and beyond."
"Guzelian Cafe Bar and Gallery in Little Germany is just two minutes’ walk from the Broadway shopping centre and across the way from Bradford Cathedral. Up a side street but under the shadow of the cathedral, the Guzelian is a small cafe type establishment which serves breakfast, lunch or tapas. The perfect place to relax with a fresh-ground coffee, glass of wine or tasty real ale… while appreciating the stunning photography on the walls"
