10 of the Best Historic Sites in York
"Clifford's Tower is an excellent first stop when visiting York. The panoramic views from the top of the tower give visitors a spectacular overview of Old Minister, York, and the North York Views. The tower is situated on a tall hill, perfect for providing defense to York."
"The striking contrast of Clifford’s Tower with the green bank of grass it sits on is a classic photo to snap of York!. Make the short (but steep) climb to the top and venture inside for a panorama of York."
"As the name implies, York’s Merchant Adventurers were merchants. They traded along the English coast, northern Europe and sometimes as far as the Baltic and Iceland, bringing back an assortment of desired goods to York. The city was an important river port and the wealthiest city in Northern England, second only to London for most of the Middle Ages, allowing the merchants to make enough money to build the Hall between 1357 and 1361."
"Another excellent photography spot and Instagrammable place in York is the Merchant’s Hall. The Merchant’s Hall has one of the most impressive guildhalls in the world, and sometimes you can get it empty – it’s incredible for photos."
"Pickering Park first opened in the summer of 1911, making this one of Hull’s oldest recreation grounds!. The 25-acre park offers both toddler and junior play areas, with various equipment including an exciting trim trail for the older kids. Activity towers with rope climbs and slides, rock climbing walls, monkey bars, a basket swing, rockers, and cute animal-themed obstacle courses are just part of the many features the park has to offer."
"West Park is yet another addition to the list that has recently received refurbishment!. Boasting a new 7.24-metre medieval-inspired activity tower, various sized slides, spinning bowls, and a rope climb, the play area is now suitable for both toddlers and older children. The bright colouring of the apparatus separates this play area from the rest, there’s also a popular skatepark, animal aviary, and an outdoor gym that will open once lockdown lifts again."
"The Botanist is a great place to both eat and drink in York as it has such an extensive cocktail menu, as well as great foodie options, too. I’ve been to The Botanist on several different occasions, both with Matt, my friends and old work colleagues for our Christmas party last year and it’s delivered beyond my expectations every single time. I’d recommend: lamb kofta or chicken hanging kebabs (SO good) or the crispy chicken burger."

The gin masterclass gives you the chance to learn more about gin including the origins, history and tasting notes. You will get to sample a range of hand-selected gins and find out about their unique flavours, botanicals and the best pairings for each gin."

"13/05/2021: I went to Sleepers with my partner and my 2 grandchildren at 4.30pmI had booked and arrived slightly early The table outside was ready and clean It was the first meal out since the end of the lockdown and we didn’t know what to expect The whole evening was great Our worry that it may be cold came to nothing. Although we didn’t use the heaters in the outside booth they were there if needed. The food was excellent and the service was goodThe COVID safety procedures were in place but it didn’t effect our enjoyment in any wayThe staff and management have done a really good job of making the outside area a pleasure to experience We will certainly go again"
