The 10 Best Cafes and Coffee Shops in Leeds
"This list ranks externally complete Leeds buildings and free-standing structures that stand at least 50 metres (164 ft), based on standard height measurement. This includes spires and architectural details but does not include antenna masts. An equals sign (=) following a rank indicates the same height between two or more buildings."
"Very popular with the locals which is always a good sign and new entry in the Good Food Guide 2019. Open for evening meals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and also great for breakfast, lunch and afternoon teas and excellent choice for vegetarians and vegans.www.partisanuk.com/"
"Stop at this independent coffee shop and restaurant on Micklegate and you can look forward to all day brunch dishes such as French toast, eggs benedict, and cooked breakfasts served in a skillet."
"09/05/2021: Had breakfast here a couple of times while staying in York. Absolutely fantastic food and great service. Best gluten free bread I have had and the cakes also great."
"Brew and Brownie fans will happily queue to sit in and enjoy the cracking coffee and delicious pancake stacks, but as it’s just across the road from the entrance to York Museum Gardens, why not order something to take away and enjoy in the Yorkshire sunshine?. Their sister cafe, Brew & Brownie Bakeshop, is just as lovely and they do takeaway salads, sandwiches and cakes too. Brew and Brownie, 5 Museum St, York YO1 7DT"
"Cafe serving both breakfast and brunch with a variety of coffee, loose leaf teas and cakes. Chocolate survival boxes, coffee and Afternoon teas available for collection and delivery. Bakeshop open Monday-Sunday 9-4 and Cafe open Monday-Sunday 9:30-4."
"The York Assembly Rooms is a listed historical building and one of the most influential pieces of architecture of the early 18th century. Perhaps the earliest example of neoclassical design in Europe, the Rooms emerged as part of the city’s new wave in design replacing the dark Gothic style. The building was masterminded by Richard Boyle, Lord Burlington, as an establishment of leisure for the upper class after a group of York’s gentry approached him with a request to create a place to accommodate dance parties, card games and other social activities."
"What makes it special in York though is the building it is in – The Grand Assembly Rooms. Think the ballroom from Beauty and the Beast and you get the general idea. From the website: ‘Book a table in The Grand Assembly Rooms, built almost 300 years ago in the Palladian style of architecture, and you’ll be eating in a stunning setting beneath chandeliers and surrounded by Corinthian columns."
"The Strawberry mojito was the best cocktail I had all weekend also. 28/05/2021: Really impressed with this place. The Assembly Room is a fantastic building and the staff were excellent going over and beyond to advise re a food allergy."
"Just a few minutes from the Shipley Glen tramway lies a stunning country pub on Baildon Moor. The classic Yorkshire bricks, wood-burning stoves and huge beer garden with amazing views make The Old Glen House well worth a trip out of the city – especially if you have the pooch with you as it’s super dog-friendly. You can look forward to delicious pub grub and a mean Sunday roast, which you can pair with ales, wine and spirits."
" This handsome, solid stone building has appeared in a number of guises down the years, including a temperance inn and a tearoom for local mill worke ..." Read our full review"
"Wapentake is a café, pub and bakery designed to create a little piece of Yorkshire. Although I think of Wapentake as more of a pub than a café in that they serve up local beers, Yorkshire puddings (and Yorkshire pudding burgers!), and crisp butties, they absolutely function as a café too. They focus on all things local, with coffee from a family-run company in Skipton called Coffee Care, tea from Taylors of Harrogate and all cakes are baked on site."
"This dog-friendly cafe and bar in Kirkgate serves a range of hearty breakfast dishes, including a Yorkshire take on beans on toast with Henderson’s relish, a vegan breakfast hash and breakfast butties. But they had us at Breakfast Yorkshire Puddings - with baked eggs, crispy bacon bits and Henderson’s relish."
"Wapentake, 92 Kirkgate, Leeds, LS2 7DJ - Visit now. Freshness is the name of the game for this city centre cafe bar. The bread is baked on site daily and there’s an exhaustive range of coffees and teas – not to mention alcoholic drinks."
"A post shared by coffeeandchimneycakes (@coffeeandchimneycakes) on Nov 10, 2016 at 11:15am PST. Specialising in chimney cakes – a sweet pastry specific to Central and Eastern European regions such as Hungary and Romania – this cosy spot isn’t your run of the mill bakery. Their chimney cakes are available in a range of flavours (including vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa and walnut and are served with a choice of ice cream, whipped cream or fresh fruits."
"Another repurposed building, The Judge’s Lodging is a Grade I-listed Georgian townhouse which in its former life was, well - it’s all in the name, isn’t it?. The imposing red brick exterior of this former home now gives way to an eccentrically stylish high-end hotel. Where The Grand does classical five-star grandeur, the Judge’s Lodging offers a kind of quirky, opulent, nudge-wink decor - as you can see in the bar’s judge-themed wallpaper."
"Always a popular place – The Judge’s Lodging on Lendal has a beautiful courtyard for al fresco dining. They now also have cosy summer chalets on the back terrace, complete with lanterns and blankets. Whether you’re looking for delicious food or cocktails with friends or simply a glass of wine or beer, The Judge’s Lodging should be on your list to visit."
"Boasting one of the most stylish rooftop terraces in York there’s no better place to enjoy your favourite drink of choice. Offering an appealing array of drinks from their cask ale bar to their medicinal cabinet loaded with the finest gins and whiskies. Soak in the sun on top of this restored Georgian townhouse just a short walk from the River Ouse."
"They say location is everything, and whether you’re in York for a romantic weekend break, or to explore the city’s historical past, Greys Court Hotel makes the ideal location from which to base your activities. Steeped in history, and with parts of its architecture dating back to the late 11th century it appears squeezed between the Minster and the Treasurer’s House. However, once through the hotel’s entrance, the connotation with squeezed ends, and you can enjoy the luxurious, historically romantic ambiance that Greys Court Hotel offers, along with all the modern conveniences you would expect from a high-end establishment."
"I studied English at St John’s University and at that time they owned Grays Court, so the vast majority of my lectures were in there, and it’s such a beautiful building!. Now, a luxury hotel and restaurant you can “explore the great British food on our evening menu in our restaurant. With seasonal ingredients sourced from the highest quality suppliers, our innovative team of chefs guarantee a dining experience like no other."
"In the city's premier location, between the Minster and the walls, with a history dating back to the 11th century plus a discreet entrance, this hotel ticks the boxes for atmosphere and privacy. The rooms are quietly elegant; the food is quietly confident."
"Olton Hall is one of the best preserved structures of Leeds. Today, it is a Grade II listed building which had once served as the home of the Blayds/Calverley family. After a major fire in 1850 the Hall was restructured and today serves as a 4 star hotel in Leeds, part of the QHotels group."
"Oulton Hall is an 18th-century mansion and has an award-winning cuisine, a spa, and a 27-hole championship golf complex in its grounds. There is free WiFi, free parking, and Leeds Train Station is 5 miles away. The luxury spa has 10 treatment rooms, a fitness studio and fully equipped gym."
"Sweeping staircases, landscaped gardens, a posh spa and 27 holes of golf at a converted 18th-century mansion house. Think butler-served afternoon tea and champagne on a terrace overlooking rolling, peaceful grounds – yet just six miles from Leeds city centre."
