Instagram spots in York, Yorkshire that you can't miss!
"The perfect park for picnics, relaxing by the River Aire and leisurely strolls around one of the best surviving medieval Cistercian abbeys in Britain, Kirkstall Abbey has 24 hectares of parkland for you to explore. The park stretches from Abbey Mills Wildflower Meadows, which is carpeted in bluebells in the spring, past the tennis courts on the far side and over the road to the playground and fields on either side of Abbey House Museum. Kirkstall Abbey, Abbey Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS5 3EH."
"Henry VIII had a great impact on Britain’s history, but did you know he was partially responsible for Kirkstall Abbey?. The 12th century monastery was disestablished by Henry in the 16th century, but is still standing today and is easily one of the most picturesque landmarks in Leeds. View this post on Instagram"
"The tower stands high next to York Castle Museum with views over York. Clifford's Tower was built at the Eye of York, a defensive position between the River Ouse and River Foss. Built in 1068 by William the Conqueror to control the North of England."
"If you’re craving green space, head to one of the largest city parks in Europe to spend an afternoon walking the dog or simply sunbathing on one of the many lawns. Roundhay Park is a popular spot all year round with a variety of lakes, meadows and forests to walk around and explore. "It's autumn and your are itching to start planning your Bonfire Night celebrations - Roundhay Park has you covered with a massive bonfire in this beautiful park!"
"Thomas Atkinson, an 18th century English architect, is famous for remaking the Bishopthorpe Palace in York in the Gothic Revival style. Though a rather influential figure of his time, very little is known about Atkinson's private life. His house, located at 20 St. Andrewgate, is one of the sparse evidences of his life in York."
"Another set of magnificent gardens in Harrogate are these towards the western edge of town, which reflect the Yorkshire landscape with a selection of trails, a log maze and tea rooms. There's also a range of boutique shops and tours on offer at the 17 acre site which, as is the case with many parts of Harrogate, was formerly the location for a bath house and a spa. Harlow Carr Gardens are at Crag Lane, Harrogate HG3 1QB. The gardens are open from 9.30am throughout the year and close at 6pm from March to October and 4pm for the rest of the year."
"Back to the centre of Leeds and we find Leeds Docks where the renowned Royal Armouries Museum is situated. The Docks are surrounded by high rise modern flats but with plenty of canal boats nestled into the moorings. Stand on the bridge at the end of Armouries Way and wait for the iconic little yellow water taxi to glide past transporting people from the docks to Granary Wharf near the train station."
"The Leeds Dock area is home to some new chic developments, but is also packed with history. It was constructed in 1843, initially built to transport coal into the city centre. Nowadays, there are considerably less coal shipments entering the docks, but it's still one of the most picturesque spots in the city."
"A sunny spring day, walking next to the river, stopping on the way. for some shopping or at one of the cafes and restaurants. The docks are accessible by free water taxi."
"11/06/2021: I love Lucias having been in York for many years and wanting to try Harrogate for a while. I had booked a table at the end of May when lockdown restrictions had eased. I booked for a birthday for 5 people and requested the flower room, which, on the day I found out I did not get a table in and instead was seated in a different room.In short, the entire visit was appalling unfortunately."

"‘Savoury, sweet and everything in between’ profess Crepe Affaire, and they’re not wrong. Based on the second floor of Trinity Leeds, this is a French restaurant centred around the honest pancake, whether you want it with lemon and sugar, Grand Marnier cognac, chicken and tarragon, feta and hummus, or even an all day breakfast. They also serve up smothered waffles, and oodles of ice cream if that’s your bag."
"When dining with children, a lunch that feels more like a party treat might be enough to tempt even the most reticent of young foodies. Cue Crepe Affaire, where everything on offer is, you guessed it, crepe-based. There are the sweet treats, like salted caramel, Oreo, peanut butter and Nutella, but don’t miss out on the savouries."
"At Crepe Affaire, it’s all about traditional French pancakes. Expect a host of classic combinations, both sweet and savoury, like cinnamon or hunter’s chicken. But it’s their more creative options that demand your attention."
"Filmore and Union, located on Petergate, are all about natural and wholesome foods. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving organic coffee, fresh juices and smoothies, 100% gluten-free cakes and much more. 90% of the menu is gluten-free, and they’re a Coeliac Association Accredited café, and are happy to accommodate any dietary requirements with many dishes being vegan or vegetarian."
"The clue’s in the name: this sturdy Regency country house is an Eden for green fingers. It’s set among 300 acres (121ha) of woodland and glorious landscaped gardens. In spring, you’ll encounter blazes of azaleas and ruby rhododendrons – no wonder honey from Rudding Park’s bees is on the menu at the funky Horto Cafe."
