"The National Railway Museum in York is home to some of the country’s greatest feats of engineering, and tells the story of Britain’s railway innovation. The museum was founded in 1975 on the site of the former North York locomotive depot, where it still stands today. "York Archaeological Trust conducted several excavations in Central York and found objects and remains over thousand years old. The dig had lasted 5 long years and managed to unearth around 40,000 well preserved remains of wooden structures from the Viking City of Jorvik. These included animal pens, workshops, fences and wells."

"I didn’t feel this one captured the interest of my two young children as much as some of the other attractions mentioned but I think older children would get more out of it. Neither the less there were bits that my two enjoyed. One area was the play area but I felt this area could be improved compared to the quality of play areas in the other museums."

"The Georgian-style Mansion House in York is the home of the city's Lord Mayors during their term in office. This is the earliest purpose-built house of this sort still in use – it predates the Mansion House in London by at least 20 years. The foundation stone for the building was laid in 1725, and it was completed seven years later, in 1732."

"Stonegate Yard is a place that I’ve been eating at ever since I was a young teenager and went out for meals with my friends. It has such a cosy and homey vibe to it and I’ve eaten there many times, both inside and in the heated outdoor patio area. I’d recommend: nachos, gammon and eggs, fish and chips or the steak flatbread."

"I have no idea why because it’s always been there, I love Japanese food and it’s not like it’s out of the way. But for some strange reason, I’m yet to visit. However, I’m including it because they do serve sushi and I promise that I’m going to visit soon, in the name of blog research of course."
