Best Brunch Leeds: 15 spots for a late-morning feast
"Once a cafe, now a fine dining destination, Fettle is a must-try if you like good food. Their cosy restaurant serves up a menu of intriguing dishes from morning until night. In the evening, you can share small plates – try the pork belly with rosemary fudge and rind popcorn or smoked akee with kimchi and cauliflower."
"Cosy cafe by day, fine-dining dynamo by night, Fettle is full of surprises. Over the years, it’s blossomed into one of the best restaurants in Leeds. Brunch is an all-day affair with a refined menu of daytime favourites."
"Yet another establishment found within Micklegate, Partisan is a trendy and independent coffee shop, which transforms into a restaurant in the evening. The menu’s diverse, and changes every week – as a result, it’s difficult to make a solid recommendation on which dish to choose, however, the principles at Partisan are clear – they value seasonality, allow the ingredients to do the talking and provide a relaxed, indulgent experience for diners. They were this year highlighted as one of the best restaurants in York by the Good Food Guide, which described “This distinctive arrival on blossoming Micklegate is principally a daytime café with a rustic ambience."
"When to go: Head down for a lazy brunch, take a book, order a large coffee, and while away a few hours. What to have: The partisan breakfast (meat, veggie and vegan available) cooked and served in a skillet, is comfort food at its best. For something a little lighter, try their Persian eggs with Medjoul dates and warming spices."
"09/05/2021: Had breakfast here a couple of times while staying in York. Absolutely fantastic food and great service. Best gluten free bread I have had and the cakes also great."
"They always have a great selection of cakes, brownies and pastries too. Beautiful ambience, excellent food & delicious cakes. The wonderful staff provides a first class service."
"What’s on the menu – York’s best brownies delivered to your doorstep – what’s not to love?. Millionaire’s shortbread and rocky road are on the menu too."
"I’ve honestly lost count the amount of times I’ve raved about Cosy Club on my blog and Instagram, but it truly is my favourite place to eat in York!. Cosy Club have such a vast array of choices on their menus; from salads to sandwiches, to tapas and burgers, Cosy Club really have thought of it all when it comes to their extensive menu. Not only that, but it’s also got the most amazing interior and decor and is without a doubt my number 1 recommendation of places to eat and drink in York!"
"Cosy Club is actually my favourite place to eat in the whole of York and for that reason alone, I think it deserves a place on this list. The outside seating area that resides on Fossgate is a beautiful place to people watch while sipping a delicious fruity cocktail during the summer months. When the temperatures become cooler however, Cosy Club opens itself up to the most gorgeous, cosy retreat."
"These days, My Thai has a couple of openings spread out across the city centre; the all-action communal-style benches of the Merrion Street one make for the best atmosphere, one that wouldn’t look out of place in the street food markets of Bangkok. The Penang comes well recommended (it’s our favourite) and you can partner it with a selection of light bates for a couple of quid each. They’ve even partnered up with Deliveroo, so you don’t even have to leave the sofa."
"Sometimes it can be hard to find eating establishments that you want to try while you’re abroad. You don’t always know what to expect, or whether you can trust an establishment while looking at it. My Thai Leeds is one of the most intimate restaurants you could go to, seating around 25 people."
"Authentic Thai food for under a tenner in under ten minutes. Seriously, this place is the bomb dot com. Any of their dishes will hit the spot, but I always think you can judge a place on its Pad Thai – and My Thai's one is delicious."
"Rather than being your trendy, modern coffee shop, it’s a traditional café with smooth, Italian coffee and the ultimate bacon sandwiches – think plenty of crispy bacon on freshly baked focaccia bread. All the food here is great in taste and portion size, along with the milkshakes and the cakes, and you’ll always get the friendliest service. It’s not really the kind of café I’d go and work in, but I’d definitely spend a lazy weekend morning in there eating my way through the menu at this Leeds coffee shop."
"San Co.co is a cheap and cheerful cafe that prides itself on being a fuss-free eatery. You can start with a coffee or one of their huge range of Twining teas, before choosing something from the menu. They make an early start here, so you can grab a bacon butty on the way to work, but if it’s lunch you’re after, you can choose from a vast array of sandwiches, salads and hot dishes, made fresh each day."
"Serving an array of tasty brews, from cappacinos and lattes, to espressos and fresh filter coffee, San Co. Co has something to suit every taste and craving, and they also offer a great breakfast and lunch menu if you're feeling peckish. Visit: 12 New Briggate, LS1 6NU - facebook.com/cafesancoco"

Serving delicious cakes and coffees during the day, along with their all-day breakfast sandwiches, Bennett’s turns into a bistro at night, serving more pricey items such as their roast chicken breast with roast onion cream and wild mushrooms at 21 USD."
"Described as the perfect place to relax and to take a break from the bustling city life, Bennett’s Cafe & Bistro is situated next to the spectacular York Minster, and offers beautiful views of York. Serving a range of traditional English food with an Italian twist, such as bacon or sausage in lightly toasted ciabatta, Bennett’s Cafe & Bistro is known for its tempting selection of wholesome, freshly made brunch dishes."
"We haven’t eaten here but have heard great things about the food. This is also the home of the Black Swan Folk Club and there is live music on Thursday nights. http://www.blackswanfolkclub.org.uk/guest.cfm"
"One of Leeds’ most recent retail parks, everything at The Springs in Thorpe Park feels shiny and new. Get your shop on at Boots, The Range and EE, while there’s an M&S Foodhall too. H&M, JD, Card Factory, The Works, The Entertainer, Mountain Warehouse, Next, TK Maxx – it’s a place that covers a lot of ground."
"Lotte Inch Gallery first came to York in 2012 in the form of a pop-up art gallery space – but many glorious years later and after several small pop-up exhibitions, the gallery moved from its previous space near York Minster to its current location in bustling 14 Bootham. The eponymous Lotte comes from a background in Art History and Heritage, having worked for The National Trust; Scampston Hall and Gardens; and The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery at The University of Leeds, amongst others – making her a mastermind when it comes to art. The gallery is the ideal place to discover new artists, designers and makers, alongside established names and figures, hoping to be a “welcoming and inclusive place with a regularly changing programme of exhibitions."
"Blossom Street Gallery, which makes its home in the historic Micklegate quarter of the city, was conceived to bring local artists and creatives together in a central space and provide an opportunity for Yorks’ residents and visitors to enjoy local artwork. Blossom Street hosts regular exhibitions with notable artists, predominantly from Yorkshire but sometimes from a little further afield. They aim to offer art which everybody can enjoy – from original pieces, to prints, to handcrafted and design-led gifts and cards, and innovative framing options and supplies."
"Krispy Kreme is an internationally beloved donut shop and you can get a taste of their famous sweet treats in Trinity Leeds. They’ve been perfecting their Original Glazed Donut for over 75 years, so you can bet it’s lip-smackingly good. Sweet, crisp and fluffy in all the right places, take a bite and it almost melts in your mouth."
"Whether it’s a single doughnut or a sharers dozen box, no matter what type of doughnut you love, Krispy Kreme has them."
"Resident on Coldbath Road, Manna Bakery recently extended its premises to a few doors down from its original location, transforming their grab ‘n go bakery to a lovely cafe. Manna Bakery have the best fresh produce and exciting breakfast menu items – the smell of freshly-baked bread and brownies hits you before you even walk through the door!. They have their own take on a few breakfast classics, and the flavours definitely don’t fall short."
